Instructions for Proper Candle Burning: How to Enjoy Them Safely and Long-Lastingly

Scented candles are great for creating a warm and relaxing atmosphere. However, to make them last longer and burn properly, they need the right care. Below you will find useful instructions that will help you enjoy your candles safely and effectively.

1. The First Burn Is the Most Important

When lighting a candle for the first time, let it burn for at least 2-3 hours or until the entire surface is evenly melted. This helps prevent “tunneling” (i.e. only the center burns), ensuring even burning and a longer lifespan.

2. Keep the Wick Short

Before each use, trim the wick to 3-5mm. This helps create a steady flame, reduces smoke, and prevents wick “stinging,” which can make the flame too strong or unstable.

3. Place the Candle on a Stable Surface

Make sure the candle is on a flat, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, curtains, or flammable objects. Air can make the flame unstable, causing uneven burning or black soot.

4. Don't Keep the Candle Burning for More Than 4 Hours

If you leave a candle burning for too long, the wax will become too hot and the fragrance oil may evaporate more quickly, reducing the intensity of the scent. For best results, extinguish the candle after 3-4 hours and let it cool before relighting.

5. Use an Eraser or Lid

To extinguish the candle, use a candle snuffer or cover it with its lid (if it has one). Blowing can create smoke and transfer ash to the melted wax, altering its quality.

6. Don't Burn the Candle to the End

When there is about 5mm of wax left in the bottom, stop using it. Continued burning can overheat the container and cause cracks or damage to the surface where the wax is located.

7. Store the Candle Correctly

To preserve the scent and its quality, store the candle away from sunlight and heat, in a cool, dry place. High temperatures can cause the wax to melt or alter the composition of the scent.
